Finnegan IP University ~ Explore a Career in IP Law

Program Description

Finnegan IP University is a four-week virtual educational program held on Wednesday evenings from February 4–25, 2026 (5:00–6:30 pm ET). The program provides a practical introduction to the U.S. patent system, covering key aspects of intellectual property practice such as the different types of IP rights, the fundamentals of drafting patent applications, and the process of prosecuting those applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Participants will also have the opportunity to meet and network with IP professionals at Finnegan, gaining firsthand insight into the role of IP and patent attorneys and the wide-ranging career possibilities within the field.

This free, virtual series also highlights career opportunities as Technical Specialists at Finnegan, a leading intellectual property law firm based in Washington, DC. Technical Specialists are recruited from specific STEM disciplines—including computer science, engineering, chemistry, and life sciences graduate programs—and typically are not pursuing a career in law. Finnegan is committed to building a strong, diverse pipeline of candidates for these roles.

Placements are limited.
