Victim Advocate Trainee-Social Service Worker Trainee

Starting Pay: $22.0625 Hourly ($45,890)

Step A: $22.8139 Hourly ($47,453)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of Bachelor's degree in psychology, pre-law or social service work within twelve (12) months of hire -AND- completed internship program for at least one (1) term within a Prosecuting Attorney's office, Police Department, Domestic Violence shelter, Child Advocacy agency, an educational setting or equivalent.

JOB SUMMARY: Performs professional casework duties in the Prosecutor's Office; provides victims of violent and/or assaultive crimes and/or victim's family members, with information regarding their rights pursuant to the Michigan Crime Victims Act; provides assistance to clients through case management of cases within the criminal justice system; makes referrals to community agencies upon request works under the supervision of the Crime Victim Service Supervisor and performs duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

  • Conducts interviews with appropriate parties as required;
  • Writes case histories and/or casework studies and makes recommendations;
  • Counsel's adults and/or juveniles as directed;
  • Makes referrals to community agencies;
  • Processing paperwork for Crime Victim Rights and Crime Victim Compensation;
  • Accompanying victims to court;
  • Assisting APAs with victim contact;
  • General work under supervision of Social Workers, Lead Social Workers and Casework Supervisor along with guidance of attorney staff;
  • Works in the District, Circuit- Family Division and Circuit Criminal division courts.
