2026 Summer Seasonal Positions
Vector Technician (40+ positions) - Starting Wage $15.50/hr.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Using handheld equipment or driving a vehicle containing a truck mounted, cab-controlled sprayer, applies insecticides to mosquito breeding sites. (Day shift employees have much more “leg work” in using handheld application equipment. Night shift employees spend approximately half their shift driving ULV trucks and half using handheld application equipment.)
2. Performs pre-driving check of vehicle checking fluid levels, lights, and other equipment.
3. Reads labels and procedure manuals on use of insecticides. Loads and unloads insecticides into and out of vehicles.
4. Records all treatments and logs all insecticides used.
5. Washes and vacuums vehicles and equipment cleaning up any chemical spills properly in accordance with directions.
6. Attends safety training and weekly safety meetings. Performs initial on-the-job training (one on one) for first two weeks of employment and as needed thereafter.
7. Assists with Source Reduction activities which include scrap tire collection efforts; backyard surveys; and neglected swimming pools.
Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age by April 1, 2026, have a valid Michigan driver's license with no more than 5 points on your record, and obtain the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development's Registered Pesticide Applicator Certification prior to employment (paid for by employer).
Experience: None required.
Biology Assistant (6 positions) - Starting Wage $15.50/hr.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assists in collecting, sampling and processing mosquito samples for arbovirus testing and other testing that may be required. Assists in processing specimens based on knowledge of various disease life cycles.
2. Monitors various mosquito breeding habitats such as roadside ditches, cross country drains, tire piles, sewage lagoons, seasonally flooded woodlots, etc., for larval activity.
3. Collects adult mosquito samples from various adult mosquito traps including New Jersey Lights Traps, CDC Traps, and Gravid Traps. Counts, sorts, sexes, and identifies mosquitoes captured.
4. Performs quality assurance to ensure proper application and performance of control products. This includes insecticide droplet characterization, field inspections, control product testing and monitoring insecticide resistance. Includes tending to live mosquito collections.
5. Performs larviciding and adulticiding in support of field operations.
6. Enters mosquito and disease surveillance data on computer, tablet, or smart phone.
Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age by April 1, 2026, have a valid Michigan driver's license with no more than 5 points on your record, and obtain the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development's Registered Pesticide Applicator Certification prior to employment (paid for by employer).
Experience: None required.
Office Assistant (3 positions) - Starting Wage $15.25/hr.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Answers telephone directing calls to proper party or handling routine calls from citizens requesting mosquito control service or information.
2. Assists citizens in-person with various program services, inputting requests, and providing information.
3. Performs general office duties such as filing, making copies, completing mail runs or other office-related errands.
4. Performs most tasks on a computer or tablet to record service requests, audit control activities, source reduction operations, and other department services. Will utilize various department software programs, informational dashboards, and basic Microsoft programs on a daily basis.
Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age by April 1, 2026, and have a valid Michigan driver's license with no more than 5 points on your record.
Experience: Previous clerical and/or customer service experience preferred.
Education Assistant (1 position) - Starting Wage $15.25/hr.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assists Education Coordinator with planning and participation in community events and presentations, as well as classrooms. Requires setting up and taking down educational displays.
2. Creates social media posts and educates the public digitally and at in-person events. Assists in managing and updating the agency website and internal employee portal.
3. Photography: develops and edits various media (photos, videos) for public education, internal training, and reports/publications.
4. Documents various control operations and agency services including insecticide applications, use of various equipment, and household scrap tire collections efforts for employee training and public education purposes.
Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age by April 1, 2026, and have a valid Michigan driver's license with no more than 5 points on your record.
Experience: Previous outreach, graphic design, or photography experience preferred.
GIS Technician (1 position) - Starting Wage $17.25/hr.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the maintenance and development of Mosquito Control's GIS program which includes creating, editing, and maintaining geographic information system layers using ESRI GIS technology, performing data analysis using GIS technologies, and producing a wide variety of maps, technical reports and related exhibits.
2. Develops an understanding of basic GIS procedures and techniques specific to geodatabases.
3. Assists departments in integrating GIS into process workflows.
4. Coordinates changes to the GIS system with external vendors.
5. Identifies GIS opportunities in existing mosquito control software and equipment.
6. Supervised use of surveillance drone to capture mosquito breeding habitat and other operational needs.
Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age by April 1, 2026, and have a valid Michigan driver's license with no more than 5 points on your record.
Experience: Experience with ArcPro and ArcGIS Online preferred.

Wages & Hours:
Starting wage for most first year employees is $15.25 to $15.50 per hour based on position.
Season begins late April and runs through the month of September. Full-time positions are available working up to 40 hours per week. Part-time positions are only available on the night shift.
Requirements:
No experience necessary - training provided!
Minimum of 18 years by April 1, 2026. Valid State of Michigan Driver's License with no more than 5 points and no restrictions.
For positions that require certification, you must study for and pass the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development's "Core" Test (this excludes GIS, Office, and Education positions).
