Mechanical Engineering Intern

A Mechanical Engineering Intern will support the Engineering and Program Management team in the design and development of mechanical systems and components of various projects.  This position will be located in Sterling Heights, MI.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process Optimization: Analyze workflows, conduct time studies, and apply Lean/Six Sigma principles (like Kaizen, 5S) to improve efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Collect, analyze, and report on production data, downtime, and performance metrics to identify root causes and areas for improvement.
  • Project Support: Assist experienced engineers on projects involving installation of new equipment, machine upgrades, process validation, and new product launches.
  • Troubleshooting: Help diagnose and resolve issues with production equipment and manufacturing processes on the shop floor.
  • Documentation: Create and update process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality control records.
  • Work with cross-functional teams (production, quality, maintenance, R&D) to implement solutions and share knowledge.
  • Hands-On Tasks: May involve basic equipment inspection, assisting with tool/fixture design using CAD, and supporting preventive maintenance. 

 

Essential Skills:

  • Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals and GD&T principles
  • Familiarity with manufacturing methods
  • Strong attention to detail and solid problem solving skills
  • Strong communication skills across all organizational levels
  • Proficient in Microsoft excel
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with proven ability to efficiently prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously

 

Requirements:

  • Pursuing program in mechanical or industrial engineering, or related discipline 
  • Motivated by continuous improvement and operational excellence
