Registration Intern

10 Week internship. $14/hour with a $1,000 housing stipend. 

Summary: The Registration intern at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West will have the opportunity to be a member of the registration team and will gain experience working in registration and collections management. The intern will primarily work to support a collections storage move but will also participate in other registration activities. The intern will assist with the movement of over 7,500 objects into a new vault space. This project will include physically moving objects as well as updating records in the museum’s collection management database, Argus. The intern will be trained in object handling and condition reporting and will also have the opportunity to learn and assist in other registration and collections management tasks, including packing and unpacking objects and assisting with inventories.

Job Duties: • Physically move objects from one storage vault to another • Assess objects to construct storage mounts as needed • Update locations and records in the collections management database • Photograph objects and upload photos to database • Assist with object handling, packing, and condition reporting • Assist with receiving Buffalo Bill Art Show and Sale objects • Other duties could include inventory, data entry, installation and deinstallation, and deaccession research

Competencies: • Knowledge of museum collections and museum collections best practices • Familiarity with museum collections database preferred • Experience handling museum objects preferred • Detail-oriented • Excellent written and oral communication skills • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Required Education and Experience: • Graduate student working towards master’s degree in museum studies, or advanced undergraduate student in Museum Studies or related discipline (History, Art History, Native American Studies, Natural Science, Anthropology)
