Community Liaison
Wayne County Commissioner Melissa Daub (D-Canton) is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join her office as a Community Liaison. As Community Liaison, you will play a crucial role in establishing and maintaining positive relationships between Commissioner Daub’s office and the local community. You will act as a bridge between the Commissioner’s office and community members, attending events and meetings, representing our organization's interests, and promoting engagement. This position is part-time, up to 20 hours a week, including evening hours. This position includes in-district events and meetings, remote work, and occasional meetings in the Detroit office.
Responsibilities:
1. Attend community events and meetings: Actively participate in various community events, meetings, and gatherings to represent our organization's interests and build strong relationships within the community.
2. Notetaking: Take accurate and detailed notes during community events and meetings, capturing important discussions, decisions, and action items for future reference.
3. Social media management: Prepare engaging and informative social media posts, incorporating event highlights, community news, and updates, to promote our organization's activities and maintain an active online presence.
4. Contact management: Collect business cards and contact information from community members and follow up with them in a timely manner, fostering meaningful connections and nurturing relationships.
5. Correspondence: Send personalized cards, letters, and thank you notes to community members, expressing appreciation for their support, contributions, and involvement.
6. Networking: Build connections and maintain relationships with community leaders, stakeholders, and staff from various organizations to foster collaboration and enhance our organization's community engagement.
7. Event coordination: Review community calendars, identify relevant events, and coordinate our organization's participation or hosting of events, ensuring smooth logistics and effective representation.
9. Attend commission committee meetings and events as time allows to keep up to date on county matters
Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with community members, leaders, and staff.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and ability to take accurate notes during meetings and events.
- Proficient in using social media platforms for content creation and engagement.
- Familiarity with community engagement principles and strategies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
- Experience in event coordination and networking is an asset.
- Understanding of local government processes and policies is a plus.
