ASC Tutor Peer Mentor

The Academic Success Center is seeking Tutor Peer Mentors who will assist fellow students in understanding and mastering course material. Tutor Peer Mentors provide support to administrative staff, engage peers in reflective conversations about tutoring, and facilitate tutor observations. 

This position is only available to current ASC tutors who have achieved Level 1 CRLA Certification. The Tutor Peer Mentor pay rate is $16/hour, and the new pay rate will apply to all Peer Tutor work hours. 

Pay Rate: $16/hour

Duties:

  • Facilitate a schedule of Tutoring Observations in accordance with CRLA Certification guidelines
  • Meet semi-regularly with a cohort of Peer Tutors for one-on-one check-in conversations
  • Support ASC administrative staff with other duties as assigned.
  • Model professionalism and effective tutoring by
    • Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for students to learn
    • Conducting one-on-one and group tutoring sessions
    • Sharing strategies to enhance understanding of course material
    • Engaging in active listening to identify students' needs

Additional Information:

  • This position will require an average of 2-3 hours worked in addition to regular Peer Tutor position hours. 
    • A small reduction in Peer Tutor hours may be considered to accommodate the Peer Tutor Mentor, but this is solely at the supervisor’s discretion. 
  • Tutor Peer Mentor-specific responsibilities will be scheduled at the start of the semester and may be adjusted throughout the semester.. 
  • Hours vary, ranging Monday through Thursday, 10am - 10pm and Fridays 10am - 3pm.
  • This position is available for up to 2 consecutive Fall or Winter semesters.

Qualifications:

  • Current ASC Tutor
  • Must be a currently enrolled OU student in a degree-seeking program.
  • Completed CRLA Level 1 Certification
  • At least 2 semesters of Peer Tutor working experience 
  • Outstanding performance as a Tutor
  • Strong leadership skills
