The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT) is accepting applications for an exciting Strategic Planning Seasonal Worker within the Statewide Planning Unit in the Bureau of Policy & Planning in Newington, CT.
Position Highlights:
- Full Time, 40 hours/week, 8 hours/day.
- Seasonal role with anticipated start date in May 2026, and ending by August 31, 2026.
- Monday-Friday, First Shift.
- Location: Newington, CT.
- Hybrid schedule may be available.
The Role:
The Statewide Planning Unit is responsible for working with municipal, state, and federal partners to aid in delivery of projects and develop plans and studies related to land use, economic and community development, multimodal planning, federal and state transportation policy, and transportation equity to support informed decision making.
We are seeking Seasonal Workers to help organize and manage critical planning data and documentation that support statewide safety and planning initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or early-career professional interested in transportation planning, data management, or public policy.
Key Responsibilities:
The seasonal staff member will assist the team by:
- Locating and cataloging final planning studies and Road Safety Audits (RSAs);
- Tracking and organizing recommendations from approximately 125+ RSAs;
- Uploading and maintaining documents in the SharePoint database to ensure accessibility and consistency across units; and
- Supporting the development of a sustainable system for future planning recommendations and RSA management.
- Performing other related duties as required.
Ideal Candidate:
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint or other document management systems
- Interest in transportation planning, public administration, or data management
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed coursework or experience in in transportation planning, urban or regional planning, Geography, GIS, public policy, or related fields.
- Grade point average of 3.0 or higher in Urban, Regional or Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, Public Policy, Geography or related courses.
- Experience or training in reading and interpreting maps through coursework, internships, or training.
- Experience through coursework or internships with Microsoft 365 and ESRI ArcGIS or related computer software.
