Director of Chapter Operations

Position Summary:

The Director of Chapter Operations is a Leadership role reporting directly to the Chief of Staff. The Director serves as the head of the Chapter Operations Department and may determine procedures, functions, and positions within the limitations of the Bylaws. They oversee all state, local, high school, and university chapters and act as a strategic bridge between grassroots organizing and national leadership.

The Director is responsible for maintaining consistent communication with chapters, providing mentorship and political guidance to chapter leaders, and tracking performance metrics to report to administrative and leadership teams. The role ensures chapter alignment with national campaigns, advocacy priorities, and movement-building strategies. The Director also builds and manages a team of organizers or regional leads, enforces compliance with bylaws, resolves internal chapter issues, and ensures chapters are adequately resourced. They must foster an inclusive culture and maintain accountability aligned with organizational values.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or technical school preferred.

Work Experience:

  • Prior nonprofit sector experience highly preferred.
  • Experience managing and mentoring staff, cross-department collaboration, and promoting a positive work culture.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory or administrative experience.

Essential Duties:

  • Manage day-to-day operations for all organization chapters/districts.
  • Advocate for chapter needs with hands-on support and problem-solving.
  • Maintain high confidentiality with all responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Mobilization to expand chapters nationwide.
  • Enforce bylaws, internal procedures, and accountability standards.
  • Support new chapter development aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Develop strategies tailored to each newly formed chapter.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Budgeting & Fundraising on chapter budgets and fundraising.
  • Work with the Director of Communications to supply chapters with messaging guides and communications support.
  • Coach and supervise chapters within the bylaws.
  • Provide regular updates to the Chief of Staff on departmental and chapter activity.

  • Vision: Ability to read fine print and use screens for prolonged periods.
  • Hearing: Tolerate noisy environments.
  • Speech: Clear verbal communication in person and via phone/video.
  • Environment: Frequent work interruptions, ability to work independently and indoors.
  • Mental: Read, write, and interpret moderately complex information; high school level math skills; process and apply information quickly; stress management.
  • Remote Work: Must have stable internet.
  • Additional: Flexible between various in-person environments; may require interstate travel.
