Job Responsibilities:
This position functions as a shop assistant, responsible for learning manufacturing and prototype concepts. The role includes providing housekeeping duties as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate machines as qualified.
- Lift, position, and remove workpieces from machines to assist with fitting and welding.
- Load, stack, and transport stock, tools, dies, and work in process manually or using a truck.
- Clean and scrape metal surfaces for fabrication, welding, painting, or shipping.
- Pick up scrap from work areas.
- Maintain a clean work environment with machines, tools, and equipment.
- Load and unload production machinery following posted instructions.
- Conduct visual safety inspections at the start of each shift and record findings.
- Report any abnormality in parts or machinery to the Supervisor or Lead hand.
- Support changes to machines or jobs as directed by the Supervisor or Lead hand.
- Address any other reasonable requests from Supervisor or Management.
Qualifications:
- Some related experience preferred.
- Highly motivated to work, learn, and teach.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Currently enrolled in a college or university.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong technical and analytical skills in select areas of technology.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Average mobility to move around an office environment.
- Capable of conducting work on a computer.
