Our dry corn mill and bioscience plant are critical parts of our operations, and we are seeking a motivated and curious Maintenance Reliability Engineer Intern to help strengthen the reliability, performance, and longevity of our equipment and maintenance systems.

Position Overview

As a Maintenance Reliability Engineer Intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers, maintenance professionals, and cross‑functional operations teams to support the continuous improvement of our reliability maintenance program.

This internship provides hands-on exposure to real‑world reliability engineering practices, including equipment health analysis, preventive and predictive maintenance enhancement, failure investigation, data analytics, and machine performance optimization.

It’s an ideal opportunity for a student passionate about mechanical systems, reliability engineering, and driving operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

As a Maintenance Reliability Engineering Intern at Didion, you will:

Reliability Program Support

  • Assist in improving and standardizing preventive and predictive maintenance (PdM) tasks for mill and bioscience equipment.
  • Support development of condition-monitoring routes (vibration, thermography, inspections).
  • Help analyze equipment downtime and failure data to identify root causes and trends.

Equipment Health & Performance

  • Participate in equipment diagnostics and reliability investigations to improve machine life and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Partner with maintenance and operations to evaluate equipment functionality and recommend reliability improvements.
  • Assist with creating and updating equipment histories, asset documentation, and criticality assessments.

Continuous Improvement & Process Optimization

  • Support reliability improvement initiatives such as lubrication optimization, component redesigns, and maintenance workflow enhancements.
  • Help validate the effectiveness of new maintenance processes and technologies.

Technical Analysis & Reporting

  • Collect, organize, and analyze equipment condition data, maintenance records, and performance metrics.
  • Prepare clear technical documentation, reliability reports, and recommendations for engineering and leadership teams.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with an interest in equipment behavior, failure modes, and maintenance strategy.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities; able to collaborate across maintenance, engineering, and operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); familiarity with CMMS systems is a plus.
  • Prior internship or hands-on experience in industrial, manufacturing, or processing environments is helpful but not required.
