Who We Are:
Join the Surface Engineering & Materials Chemistry Section within the Materials Engineering Department as a Summer Intern! Our team makes and characterizes materials using additive manufacturing processes to enhance the properties of components. As a member of the team, you will help develop creative solutions for existing and next-generation technologies for both government and industry clients. You will have the opportunity to work with scientists and engineers who are experts in their fields and gain exposure to a diverse array of projects and technologies.
Objectives of this Role:
- Work alongside engineering staff to perform experiments in metals additive manufacturing and materials characterization, materials fabrication, process optimization and development.
- Be a solution-oriented problem solver that exercises creativity and independent judgement in determining approaches to solve a wide range of technical problems.
- Learn new technical skills to complete project work and develop new materials and processes.
- Get exposed to a variety of projects and real world technical problems.
- Summer 2026 internship.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
- Assists with building components, subunits, models, and adaptations of standard equipment.
- Performs experiments; documents in lab notebook, interprets data to determine pass/fail criteria for next steps.
- Hands-on work in laboratory environments. Quickly learn additive manufacturing and material synthesis processes.
Requirements:
- Must be pursuing a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Material Science and Engineering.
- 0 years: Strong interest in materials, additive manufacturing, technical challenges and problem solving.
- Strong Communication Skills.
