Instructor of Junior Dance (Summer)

Position Overview


Join us in the summer of 2026 and help us continue a long tradition of supporting creativity, building talent, and celebrating each artist’s unique journey at Interlochen. We are seeking an energetic and supportive Instructor of Junior Dance who embodies our core values and is committed to nurturing young artists. As an Instructor of Junior Dance, you’ll play a major role in nurturing the love of dance in young children, fostering their creativity, building their confidence, and instilling in them a lifelong appreciation for the art of dance.


What You Get To Do



  • Collaborate with accompanists, collaborative pianists, other dance faculty members

  • Maintain a professional and warm presence around students

  • Maintain a daily schedule (yet subject to change based on program and overall institution needs) 9:00-4:45 that will include auditions, class instruction, and placement of dancers in programs

  • Responsible for attending technical stage rehearsals and performances as stagers or choreographers

  • Be aware of student injuries and health-related concerns

  • Act as a mentor to students

Required Experience:

What You Need



  • Availability 6/27/2026 - 8/10/2026

  • Prepared to live in a dorm or nature cabin setting.

  • Bachelor’s Degree and / or Completed Dance Teacher Certification Preferred

  • Experience dealing with dance students from grades 3-12

  • Experience in the professional and/or academic dance community as an instructor, performer and choreographer - though priority will be given toward instructional experience. Choreographic opportunities may present themselves as needed but it should be noted this is not a choreographic residency.

  • Time management and ability to deal with student behavioral concerns is crucial

  • Experience in both realms of classical ballet and contemporary dance technique

  • Candidate should be an advocate for age appropriate dance students seeking potential admission to the year-round Interlochen Arts Academy

  • Rustic Living: You’ll be living in a nature cabin setting, surrounded by the beauty of northern Michigan. Wi-Fi and air conditioning are not provided in the nature cabins, encouraging a true disconnect from the digital world and a deeper connection with nature and those around you.


  • Embrace the Outdoors: The camp is nestled in a wilderness area, so expect to encounter wildlife and insects as part of the experience. Embracing the natural environment is key to enjoying your time here.


  • Outdoor Work Environment: Many of your duties will involve working outdoors, often for extended periods, so being comfortable in various weather conditions is important.
