Intern - Resiliency/Flood Control
Summer Internship opportunities are available to students only. To be eligible for a summer internship, students must be graduating after August 7, 2026 or continuing their education. The Summer Internship begins on May 18, 2026 and ends on August 7, 2026.
This intern will work within and provide support to the District’s Office of District Resiliency, within the Resiliency and Flood Control Division. The intern will actively engage in GIS-based flood data analysis, water quality field sampling and monitoring, and the preparation of grant applications to support future flood resilience and water quality infrastructure projects.
Key responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:
1. Assisting in data collection of flood observations and post-processing, organizing critical elevations of structures, establishing flood thresholds, and delineation of the area of impact.
2. Assisting in quality control of the project and component attributes for GIS rankings, analysis, and additional parameters for the GIS dashboard.
3. Assisting in the collection, processing, and analysis of field water quality sample data in support of water quality monitoring efforts. This will entail work related to a pilot project at C-9 Basin in Miami-Dade County, working collaboratively with internal District staff and external partner agencies to conduct field sampling and ensure data accuracy and control.
4. Assisting with the preparation of grant applications by gathering required documentation, compiling data, and supporting narrative development.
5. Communicating and documenting detailed findings and descriptions of final work products.
Education/Experience Guide:
Achieved classification as a college level Junior or above in a related degree program at a college or university accredited by a recognized national or regional accreditation association. Must have coursework relevant to the position being accepted and no experience is required. The student must have a 3.0 average or higher and maintain an average grade of B or above in all major fields of study.
Undergraduate level interns will be paid $17/hour and work a maximum of 32 hours per week for a maximum internship duration of 4 months.
Graduate and Doctoral level interns will be paid $19/hour and work a maximum of 32 hours per week for a maximum internship duration of 4 months.
