IT DevOps Intern
FHLBank Pittsburgh offers 12-week paid internships as a part of its talent acquisition strategy. Talented students are provided with the opportunity to gain hands-on work experience, explore their career interests and broaden their professional network while helping FHLBank Pittsburgh achieve its business objectives and strategic goals. The program is designed to offer a substantive experience by exposing talented students to the banking industry and our culture of development through clearly defined responsibilities and/or projects.
To promote collaboration and relationship building, FHLBank Pittsburgh operates in a hybrid model with employees in the office three days per week and remote two days per week.
The IT DevOps Intern will:
- Learn core DevOps concepts and practices
- Use cloud IaC tools (AWS CloudFormation/Terraform) and GitHub
- Explore AI-assisted coding during the engagement
- Build simple CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) for apps and infra
- Automate tasks with scripts (Python/Bash) and reusable modules
- Containerize services (Docker) and deploy to Kubernetes/EKS
- Set up monitoring/logging (CloudWatch, Prometheus/Grafana) with alerts
Required Experience
- Students must be enrolled in an accredited four-year institution and have completed at least their sophomore year with a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Students must be pursuing a relevant field of study (e.g. Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering) and have the ability to work, at a minimum, May/June through August of the internship year
- Interest and passion about AI and how it can be applied to accelerate DevOps
- Exposed to or knowledge of Cloud technologies (e.g., AWS)
- Familiar with GitHub - clone repositories, commit changes, and create pull requests.
- Exposure to tools like Terraform or CloudFormation (even at a conceptual level).
- Understand basic concepts like CI/CD, version control, and automation.
- Ability to write simple scripts in Python for automation and AI workflows
- Awareness of IAM principles (least privilege) and compliance basics.
- Ability to learn quickly, troubleshoot simple issues, and ask the right questions.
