Learning Experience
The Journalism & Digital Storytelling Internship at Zoo Media provides practical experience in writing, reporting, research, and multimedia content creation. Interns work closely with experienced writers, editors, and digital creators to understand how storytelling can inform, inspire, and empower communities.
You’ll gain exposure to newsletters, blogs, digital publications, marketing copy, interviews, and youth‑centered media initiatives.
Responsibilities
Content Creation
- Write compelling, informative content for newsletters, blogs, and digital storytelling platforms.
- Develop narratives that highlight youth voices, creative industries, community stories, and cultural trends.
- Support the creation of educational and mission‑aligned content for Zoo Media programs.
Digital News & Research
- Assist in researching and writing articles for Zoo Media’s digital news channels.
- Stay informed on trends in youth culture, digital media, education, and creative industries.
- Help identify story opportunities that align with Zoo Media’s mission.
Marketing & Communications Copy
- Collaborate with the marketing team to write copy for promotional materials, social media campaigns, and brand messaging.
- Ensure consistency in tone, voice, and brand identity across all written materials.
Interviews & Feature Development
- Conduct interviews with creators, youth leaders, educators, and community partners.
- Work with the content team to develop in‑depth features, profiles, and storytelling pieces.
Internship Program Participation
- Engage in Zoo Media’s structured internship program, including workshops, peer collaboration, and skill‑building sessions.
- Participate in editorial meetings, content planning, and collaborative writing exercises.

Requirements
- Availability for team meetings:
Mondays at 9:00 AM MST, Wednesdays at 10:00 AM MST, Fridays at 8:00 AM MST
SkillBridge participants also meet Thursdays at 9:00 AM MST - Currently pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Media Studies, Creative Writing, or a related field.
- Strong writing and storytelling skills.
- Interest in youth‑centered media, digital storytelling, or community‑focused journalism.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Enthusiastic, proactive, and aligned with Zoo Media’s mission.
- Basic familiarity with content creation tools or willingness to learn AI‑assisted writing tools.
