Summer Intern, Regional Rail

Under direct supervision, Summer Interns participate in a ten-week professional development program designed to provide hands-on, entry-level experience aligned with the student’s major field of study and the sponsoring department’s business operations. Interns gain real-world exposure to OCTA operations and the transportation industry while contributing to meaningful projects and learning from experienced professionals.

 

As a Summer College Intern, you will be exposed to OCTA's career opportunities in the transportation industry. You will gain deeper awareness of transportation's many facets through your OCTA orientation, projects and teams, and internal networking.

 

This is a temporary, full-time internship position (approximately 40 hours per week) and runs for ten weeks during the summer.  The pay range is from $19.00 - $22.00 per hour depending on your education level.

What You’ll Do

  • Produce presentations, reports, and materials related to rail performance metrics, including ridership and on-time performance
  • Support staff analysis of rail system performance data
  • Assist with rail program and project tracking activities
  • Participate in field work, research assignments, and special projects
  • Provide document control support, including file organization and records management
  • Compile and organize data for reporting and internal presentations

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Currently enrolled full-time college student (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior) at an accredited two- or four-year college or university
  • Students that graduated with their bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in the fall of 2025 or plan to graduate in the spring of 2026 are eligible
  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Data Analytics, Public Administration, Business, or a related field
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Interest in rail operations, transit performance metrics, and public transportation systems
  • Experience with GIS or graphic design software (preferred but not required)
