Technical Artist Designer Intern - Remote

As a Technical Artist Designer Intern, you’ll help bring these experiences to life. You’ll transform creative concepts into functional, interactive systems—collaborating with designers, artists, writers, and curriculum developers to build games and simulations that are intuitive, meaningful, and fun. This role is ideal for emerging developers who want to use their technical skills to support education, creativity, and youth‑driven innovation.

What You’ll Do

  • Build core gameplay systems including controls, physics, input handling, UI interactions, animations, and player feedback loops
  • Translate design documents into functional prototypes and polished features
  • Collaborate with designers and technical artists to refine mechanics, improve usability, and optimize performance
  • Write and debug scripts in C#, C++, Python, or JavaScript to support interactive learning tools and simulation‑style experiences
  • Develop modular, reusable systems that can support multiple learning pathways (e.g., financial literacy, creative storytelling, STEM exploration)
  • Integrate AI and LLM‑powered tools to enhance adaptivity, feedback, and personalized learning moments

You’ll Learn To

  • Build interactive experiences using Unity, Unreal Engine, or Godot
  • Develop scalable architecture for multi‑genre educational and creative projects
  • Apply physics, collision systems, and game math to solve real design challenges
  • Use AI to enhance character behaviors, generate content, and support learner progression
  • Balance gameplay flow with instructional goals, accessibility, and youth‑centered design principles

Requirements

  • Experience with at least one programming language (C#, C++, Python, or JavaScript preferred)
  • Curiosity about how games and interactive tools are built
  • Comfort working in a collaborative, remote environment
  • Currently studying Computer Science, Game Development, Software Engineering, Interactive Media, or a related field
  • Availability for virtual team meetings:
    • Mondays @ 9:00 AM MST
    • Wednesdays @ 10:00 AM MST
    • Fridays @ 8:00 AM MST
    • (Thursdays @ 9:00 AM MST for SkillBridge participants)

Bonus Skills (Not Required, But Valued)

  • Experience with Unity or Unreal
  • Interest in simulation‑style or physics‑based gameplay
  • Familiarity with educational game design or youth‑focused digital tools
  • Experience with GitHub or version control workflows
