GIS Intern

Macomb Township is seeking a current college student pursuing geography/cartography under the leadership of the Township GIS Coordinator, this position assists with inputting data into a Township wide Geographic Information System. Utilizes GPS and GIS software to collect data in an outdoor environment with emphasis on water and sewer infrastructure data. 

The internship starts May 4th, 2026, and concludes August 28th, 2026. This position is based in the Macomb Township Planning Department and will be fully in-person.

Through this internship, interns will assist Township Public Works Department staff for all GIS data collection needs, navigate outdoor areas of the Township using high accuracy GNSS receivers, and review and interpret engineering drawings to collect, document, and update utilities geospatially and attribute data in GIS. 

Qualifications:

• Current college student pursuing a degree in geography, computer science, and/or public administration.
• Understanding of water and/or sewer utility projects preferred. 
• basic knowledge of ESRI software with special emphasis on Pro and ArcGIS Online.

• Gain hands-on learning experience through working with municipal operations.
• Demonstrates foundational technical knowledge and a willingness to learn and apply new technical skills.
