Mechanical Engineering Intern

ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is looking for Mechanical Engineering Interns to join our Public Sector Central team. We’re looking for a detail-oriented, dependable, and process-driven Engineering Intern who is currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and will be assigned tasks to perform or assist in energy audits, utilities analyses, load/energy calculations, solution evaluations, life cycle analyses, and submittal reviews. The Engineering Intern will also participate in construction management and sales activities, where opportunities arise.

The essential functions of the position include:

  • Site auditing – walking through customer facilities, taking notes and pictures of building lighting, heating & cooling systems, temperature controls, plumbing, windows & doors, roofing and other systems as necessary to assess facility condition and needs. This may include writing down equipment nameplate information, physical measurement of temperatures and/or dimensions, use of data-logging equipment, and asking specific questions about facility practices or problem areas.
  • Utility analysis – review customer supplied utility bills and information, compile into spreadsheet format for analysis, review data and comment on trends
  • Miscellaneous projects related to engineering tools, spreadsheets or calculators, or other processes.
  • Construction site walk-throughs & meetings – accompany project management team during construction meetings on-site, review status of project(s), assist in taking notes, provide feedback to project management and engineering team.
  • Sales related activities – assist Account Executives and engineering team with development of reports and presentations.
  • Process Improvement |Assist to Identify and document areas for efficiency and accuracy improvements within engineering workflows

Your background includes:

  • Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering program (or related field)
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and analytical thinking
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a methodical approach
  • Ability to follow structured processes and document work accurately
  • Interest in construction engineering and infrastructure development
  • Familiarity with engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit), a plus
