Are you currently enrolled in a trade school or technical program for automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment repair? Are you looking for hands-on experience to build your mechanical skills and resumé in a professional fleet environment? 

The City of Kentwood is seeking a Fleet Services Assistant Intern to support our Public Works Fleet Division. This internship is designed for students pursuing careers as light-duty or heavy-duty mechanics who want practical, real-world experience working alongside experienced Fleet Technicians. This is a seasonal internship and does not guarantee future full-time employment

Pay & Perks

What You'll Do

As a Fleet Services Assistant Intern, you will support the Fleet Services team with a variety of hands-on tasks, including:

  • Assisting technicians with vehicle and equipment inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Helping manage parts inventory and shop organization
  • Cleaning and detailing City vehicles and equipment
  • Maintaining tools and equipment inventory
  • Supporting facility cleanliness and organization
  • Participating in safety training and safe work practices
  • Assisting other Public Works divisions when needed

This role is a great opportunity for individuals interested in automotive repair, fleet management, mechanical work, or public service operations.

What We're Looking For

  • Our ideal candidate:
  • Has a high school diploma or GED
  • Holds a valid Michigan driver’s license
  • Has basic knowledge of vehicle systems and maintenance procedures
  • Has a strong interest in mechanical trades and fleet operations
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Is dependable, detail-oriented, and eager to learn
