Are you currently enrolled in a trade school or technical program for automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment repair? Are you looking for hands-on experience to build your mechanical skills and resumé in a professional fleet environment?
The City of Kentwood is seeking a Fleet Services Assistant Intern to support our Public Works Fleet Division. This internship is designed for students pursuing careers as light-duty or heavy-duty mechanics who want practical, real-world experience working alongside experienced Fleet Technicians. This is a seasonal internship and does not guarantee future full-time employment

What You'll Do
As a Fleet Services Assistant Intern, you will support the Fleet Services team with a variety of hands-on tasks, including:
- Assisting technicians with vehicle and equipment inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Helping manage parts inventory and shop organization
- Cleaning and detailing City vehicles and equipment
- Maintaining tools and equipment inventory
- Supporting facility cleanliness and organization
- Participating in safety training and safe work practices
- Assisting other Public Works divisions when needed

What We're Looking For
- Our ideal candidate:
- Has a high school diploma or GED
- Holds a valid Michigan driver’s license
- Has basic knowledge of vehicle systems and maintenance procedures
- Has a strong interest in mechanical trades and fleet operations
- Works well in a team environment
- Is dependable, detail-oriented, and eager to learn
