Circulation Desk Assistant – Educational Resources Lab (Work Study Preferred)

The Educational Resources Lab (ERL) is looking for a reliable and friendly student with approved work study to join our team as a Circulation Desk Assistant for the upcoming fall semester. The ERL is a busy, welcoming space that supports education students, faculty, and staff with teaching materials, technology, and library resources.

In this role, you will often be the first point of contact for visitors. You will help patrons find materials, answer basic technology questions, and keep the ERL running smoothly throughout the day. Some evening availability may be required.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist patrons at the circulation desk and answer phone inquiries
  • Check library materials and technology in and out
  • Help with basic technology troubleshooting (printing, copying, scanning, etc.)
  • Prepare reserved technology for faculty and staff pickup
  • Assist patrons with simple catalog searches and locating items on the shelves
  • Monitor the ERL email account and calendar
  • Pull books and materials for faculty or class use
  • Create displays featuring books and teaching materials
  • Process new materials and assist with clerical tasks and special projects
  • Keep the space organized by straightening shelves, tables, and chairs
  • Empty book drop boxes and record ERL statistics
  • Restock and maintain basic supplies
     

What We’re Looking For

  • A successful candidate will demonstrate:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft applications
  • Comfort assisting others with technology and equipment (printing, copying, etc.)
  • Attention to detail and the ability to complete tasks accurately
  • The ability to work independently and stay organized in a busy environment
  • A positive attitude and commitment to providing excellent customer service
