Instrumentation and Controls Intern

Job Title: Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Intern

Location: Mississippi Power – Plant Daniel, Moss Point, MS

Job Type: Internship

Duration: Summer 2026 (June - August)

Job Summary: Mississippi Power is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Intern to join our team at Plant Daniel. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of electrical, instrumentation, and controls within a power generation environment. The intern will work closely with experienced professionals to support various operational and maintenance tasks, contributing to the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the plant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems, including PLCs, DCS, and HMI equipment.
  • Support the configuration, installation, and integration of control systems.
  • Aid in the development and implementation of preventive maintenance plans.
  • Collaborate with the I&C team to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  • Contribute to the documentation and recordkeeping of maintenance activities.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of outage work scopes.
  • Gain exposure to NERCIP regulations and cybersecurity practices related to control systems.
  • Support the daily operations of generating units and assist in strategic planning for plant operations.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Instrumentation, Industrial Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a dynamic work environment.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with PLC programming and ladder logic.
  • Knowledge of Emerson Ovation and GE Mark VI control systems.
  • Familiarity with Maximo or similar maintenance management software.
  • Previous internship or project experience in a related field.
