Synthetic Organic Chemistry Intern
The Role:
The Summer Intern – Synthetic Organic Chemistry will report to a Principal Chemist and perform complex laboratory operations to develop new products and synthetic procedures. They will perform organic synthesis experiments to make the target molecule(s) within the specifications required by the project. They will also analyze their synthesis reaction products to understand and subsequently minimize residual reagents or solvents. They will optimize the reaction pathways to develop the best manufacturing procedure for the products under investigation.
How You Will Make an Impact:
- Work with R&D team to conduct research on reactions needed to develop new products.
- Run chemical reactions independently.
- Conduct testing for reaction products generated: analytical, qualitative and quantitative chemical and physical properties.
- Organize and present information to facilitate data analytics, identifying unusual results, and optimizing processes.
- Operate required analytical instrumentation such as GC, HPLC, GPC, ball and ring.
Creating Extraordinary Starts With:
- Two semesters of undergraduate organic chemistry including laboratory work
- A passion for organic chemical synthesis
- Creative ability to solve problems with organic chemistry synthesis projects
- Ability to analyze results then plan subsequent experiments to solve outstanding problems
