Camp AGQ Health Officer
Overview
Responsible for the overall function, safety, and success of the Camp AGQ Health Center and camper and staff health. Facilitate healthcare for campers ages 6-16 in an overnight camp setting. Will oversee a team of assistant health officers to train and implement health-related best practices to support camper and staff health. First responder in case of emergency. Guide program staff to maintain a safe environment and oversee first aid. Read camper health forms before the session and communicate with parents. Collect, organize and distribute camper medication. Coordinate camper health checks. Maintain meticulous records, adhering to all state and ACA standards. Maintain Health Center areas. Coordinate with the camp nurse, local doctor and hospital if further care is needed. Committed to working with a diverse staff and camper population for the fulfillment of a positive camp experience. Room and Board provided.
Expectations
- Healthcare
- Provide healthcare to meet individual needs of camp staff and campers.
- Oversee First Aid procedures and supplies.
- Screen all campers and staff who are arriving at camp and departing from camp.
- Administration
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to State Licensing and ACA Standards.
- Examines health forms and notifies counselors and other key stakeholders of children with specific needs, accommodations, or restrictions.
- Coordinate trips to outside medical professionals, including printing health forms, obtaining credit cards, contacting parents and filing an incident report via the YMCA portal.
- Ordering
- Inventory and order adequate resources for serving the health and medical needs of the campers and staff.
- Inventory staff medicine cabinet and order appropriate over the counter medications on a regular basis.
- Adhere to provided program budgets and review purchases with Camp Director.
- Health Center Maintenance
- Sets up and maintains equipment and cleanliness related to the Health Center, including deep cleaning and restocking inventory.
- Responsible for opening and closing the Health Center and ensuring cleanliness during the summer.
- Communication
- Implement a thorough communication process to ensure best practices for parent communication.
- Follow up with caregivers regarding camper health updates.
- Return phone calls, messages, and caregiver inquiries as necessary.
- Other
- Lead staff week training session reviewing basic health practices and Health Center operations.
- Works alongside Leadership Team to implement wellness and self-care into Staff Training and throughout summer season.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Must be State of Michigan Health Officer, or hold similar qualifications, or be willing to obtain qualifications .
