Construction Safety Intern

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented 3rd or 4th year Safety Intern to join our team for the spring/summer term of 2026. This role offers a 360-degree view of construction safety management, splitting time between the front lines (field) and strategic operations (office). You’ll work closely with project teams, learn how safety standards are applied in the field, and contribute to creating a safe, compliant, and productive work environment.

Key Responsibilities

In the Field (Support & Observation)

· Safety Inspections: Conduct daily site walk-throughs to identify potential hazards (fall protection, scaffolding, electrical, etc.) and suggest corrective actions.

· Toolbox Talks: Assist in preparing and occasionally leading "Toolbox Talks" to keep safety top-of-mind for subcontractors and internal crews.

· Equipment Verification: Verify that heavy machinery, PPE, and safety equipment are in good working condition and being used correctly.

· Incident Response: Assist in the initial documentation and "root cause" investigation if a near-miss or minor incident occurs.

In the Office (Administration & Compliance)

· Documentation Management: Organize and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS), training logs, and daily safety reports.

· Regulatory Research: Research OSHA 29 CFR 1926 standards to help update site-specific safety plans and company policies.

· Safety Metrics: Assist in tracking safety KPIs (key performance indicators such as total recordable incident rate (TRIR) and near-miss frequency for monthly leadership reports.

· Subcontractor Pre-qualification: Review subcontractor safety records to ensure they meet company standards before.

Qualifications & Skills

· Education: Currently pursuing a degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Management, Ergonomics or related field.

· Communication: Ability to communicate firmly but professionally with diverse field crews and executive leadership.

· Physical Ability: Must be comfortable walking on uneven terrain, climbing ladders, and working in various weather conditions.

· Certifications (Plus): OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction Outreach training is a major advantage (will be provided if not current).

· Tech Savvy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel/Word) and an interest in learning safety management software (e.g., Procore, Autodesk, etc.).

Work Environment

This position involves regular time on active construction sites, which may include walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs or ladders, and exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Appropriate PPE will be provided.
