Director of Institutional Research

Position Title:  Director of Institutional Research

Position Description:

Provides leadership and perform functions related to the collection, interpretation, and use of institutional data to support planning, assessment, and decision-making. Facilitate access to information maintained in the college’s administrative/student information system to support college operations and monitor key institutional indicators. Ensure the integrity of data and information released in reports or studies, and provide data analysis, reporting, or research as needed to support institutional objectives. Assist Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, and Financial Aid departments in reconciling various accounts and reports on a monthly basis.

Reports To:  Vice President for Administration and Finance

Position Status:  Full-time, Exempt, 12 months per year

Classification/Points:  Administrative, Level C

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Establish, administer, and coordinate the college’s institutional research activities, including collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting information on the characteristics of the college to support institutional decision-making.
  2. Work closely with appropriate college offices to conduct research and statistical analyses needed for projects in areas such as human resources, curricula, instruction, payroll, collective bargaining, facilities, or finance.
  3. Provide research and data support for the college’s organizational effectiveness, planning, accreditation, evaluation, and program assessment activities.
  4. Serve as the liaison among college departments for organizational effectiveness, planning, accreditation, evaluation, and program assessment activities.
  5. Serve as the college liaison to federal, state, and local authorities for data reporting, research studies, and surveys.
  6. Prepare federal, state, and institutional accountability reports in compliance with documented requirements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  7. Represent the college at federal, state, and local meetings, seminars, and conferences as appropriate.
  8. Maintain and disseminate data analyses and research to support the college’s planning efforts.
  9. Develop and implement processes for collecting, linking, and analyzing data from multiple sources, including internal systems, state and federal agencies, other higher education institutions, and employers.
  10. Monitor the overall integrity of required data ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements and taking appropriate steps to correct discrepancies when identified.
  11. Collaborate with college staff to identify, prioritize, and manage projects related to the administrative software system, coordinating with the Director of Information Technology to ensure effective project implementation.
  12. Direct or support the implementation, modification, and design of applications and programs to meet institutional and user requirements.
  13. Assist with the integration of third-party software applications with the administrative/student information system.
  14. Assist and support the Director of Information Technology.
  15. Develop reports and database queries to support administrative database functions.
  16. Contact vendors to report and resolve problems and assist with product demonstrations.
  17. Presence on the job is an employee’s fundamental obligation. Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is required.
  18. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Position Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, data processing, statistics, research methods, or a related field required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  2. Minimum of five to seven years of experience in the related field.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in SQL and related dialects.
  4. Strong understanding of relational database theory, principles, and best practices.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of mathematical and statistical methods applicable to information processing systems.
  6. Working knowledge of client/server applications and network systems.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Microsoft Visual Studio required; MOS certification in Excel preferred or must be obtained within the probationary period (60 working days).
  8. Experience with higher education administrative/student information systems, including a technical understanding of data warehousing and data mining; experience with Ellucian Colleague preferred.
  9. Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact with others in a kind and courteous manner.
  10. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required.
