Job Description
POSITION: Summer Camp Health Officer (CHO)
SUPERVISOR: Summer Camp Director
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Health Service Manager and keeping with the goals and mission of YMCA Storer Camps, the CHO will provide health, safety, and general medical services in accordance with camp standing orders. They will maintain records, dispense medication and respond to emergencies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A CHO may be a Registered Nurse (R.N.), Licensed Practical Nurse (L.P.N.), Emergency Medical Technician (E.M.T.), or meet the State of Michigan and American Camping Association requirements. These requirements include Advanced First Aid, Professional Rescuer CPR for adult, child and infant, and AED (training provided). The CHO must be committed to the mission of the YMCA. He/she must have excellent judgment, communication and organizational skills, confidence and willingness to interact in a positive manner with campers and guests, flexibility, and patience. He/she must be a service oriented problem solver.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Work within guidelines and maintain compliance with Michigan camp licensing regulations, American Camping Association standards, and generally accepted standards of care and practices outlined in the Treatment Plan.
· Provide basic emergency (first response) health care for guests and staff.
· Dispense medications in a timely and safe fashion, demonstrating knowledge and competency of over-the-counter and prescription medications.
· Maintain accurate health records and log books.
· Maintain cleanliness and order in the Health Center(s). This includes but is not limited to laundry, mopping, sorting lost and found items, deep cleaning of all surfaces and equipment, and restocking supplies.
· Maintain and distribute first aid supplies and equipment.
· Work as a team player with hearth service staff and other departments.
· Interpret and enforce all camp policies, rules and regulations.
· Maintain security of medications, records, and confidentiality of patient’s medical conditions.
· Facilitate staff and guest awareness of unsafe and at risk behaviors and conditions.
· Assume other duties that enhance camp program and the experience of guests.
· Ability to work in a high stress, fast paced environment, while maintaining order of the health center providing competent, caring service.
· Handle calls to and from parents in a professional manner.
· Process Incident Reports and State of Michigan Forms.
· Maintain up-to-date Camp Health Officer certifications.
· Respond to emergencies on camp.
