Position Overview:
The Health Professions Data Series (HPDS) within the Health Care Workforce Center aims to quantify and describe Massachusetts’ health care workforce for licensed health care professions. The data helps inform workforce development, education, training, recruitment, and retention. Data is collected via surveys for 17 health professions when health professionals renew their licenses through the state. There is a wealth of data collected, including information on type of work performed, work setting, educational background and more. The intern would have the opportunity to become an expert in data for a specific health care profession, conduct analyses in SAS, and present a descriptive analysis of the data to inform future health care workforce planning.
Responsibilities:
- Organize, clean and analyze workforce survey data using existing code in SAS. If intern has advanced skills and experience in SAS, writing novel SAS code can also be integrated into the internship.
- Conduct a descriptive analysis for at least one cycle’s worth of data for at least one licensed health care profession, including at least 2-3 data visualizations.
- Translate data findings into digestible narratives for lay audiences and partners.
Skills & Qualifications:
The intern must have taken at least one college-level statistics, epidemiology, or biostatistics class and at least one public health class. They must have used SAS software either for coursework, a previous internship or job, or for a personal project. Other programming or statistical software cannot be substituted for SAS experience.
