Legal Administrative Assistant Intern

Miller Johnson, a rapidly growing Midwest law firm known for its entrepreneurial spirit, down‑to‑earth culture, and deep-rooted commitment to the communities we serve, is seeking full-time Administrative Interns in our Grand Rapids and Detroit Offices for this summer. 

 

This internship provides undergraduate students with a valuable opportunity to gain hands‑on experience across multiple practice groups in a professional, collaborative environment that encourages learning, skill development, and active participation. Designed to introduce students to the legal field, this internship offers practical exposure and foundational experience to support a future career within the legal industry.

 

Program Details

  • Internship Duration: May 11, 2026 – July 31, 2026 (12 weeks) 
  • Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Practice Areas: Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions, Education, Immigration, Intellectual Property, Labor and Employment, Litigation, Medical Recovery, Probate and Estate Planning, and Real Estate
  • Paid, 37.5 hours a week.
     

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Legal Support team with day-to-day administrative and case-related tasks
  • Assist with scanning, filing, and organizing documents in both electronic and paper formats
  • Proofread documents as needed, including time entries and basic legal materials
  • Assist in preparing simple documents such as engagement letters and conflict waivers
  • Support scheduling, calendaring, and general administrative coordination through proactive assistance 

 

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required 
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (preferred majors: Legal Studies, Political Science, or related fields) required 
  • Prior experience in a customer service or office role preferred 

 

Skills, Knowledge, and other Competencies 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to organize large amounts of information and manage multiple tasks
  • Demonstrates professionalism, reliability, and a strong work ethic
  • Displays strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Takes initiative and demonstrates an eagerness to learn
  • Works effectively both independently and as a part of a team
  • Handles information with discretion and maintains confidentiality
