Molecular Biology Intern

About the Opportunity We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Molecular Biology Intern to support our plasmid DNA workflow in a dynamic lab environment. This hands-on internship offers valuable experience in core molecular biology techniques, including plasmid preparation, sequencing, and bioinformatics analysis. Ideal for students majoring in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field who want real-world lab experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transform existing plasmid DNA from product inventory to produce fresh plasmid preps.
  • Catalogue samples and coordinate shipment to Contract Research Organizations (CROs) for sequencing.
  • Analyze sequencing results using online bioinformatics tools such as NCBI-BLAST, Addgene, and ExPASy.
  • Organize and maintain final plasmid preps in the freezer database with accurate record-keeping.
  • Perform repetitive laboratory tasks with high accuracy and consistency while maintaining excellent attention to detail.

What You'll Learn & Gain:

  • Practical experience in plasmid transformation, DNA preparation, and sample management.
  • Proficiency with standard sequence analysis and bioinformatics tools.
  • Skills in lab organization, documentation, and working in a fast-paced research setting.
  • Exposure to professional workflows involving external sequencing partners (CROs).

Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a closely related field (preferred).
  • Basic understanding of molecular biology concepts (e.g., plasmids, transformation, DNA sequencing).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to stay focused on repetitive tasks.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as following detailed protocols.
  • Prior lab experience (coursework or previous internship) is a plus but not required—we value eagerness to learn.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work on-site in the lab (Novi, MI)
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment.
  • Reliable transportation required

This internship is a great opportunity to build foundational skills in molecular biology while contributing to real project work. If you're passionate about hands-on science and thrive in a detail-focused setting, we'd love to hear from you!
