Regulatory & Carbon Markets Intern
Here's the updated posting with the academic credit line removed and the "continued engagement" language softened slightly:
About PLANET.TECH
PLANET.TECH is building the world's first wearable methane capture device for dairy cattle — converting cow burps into renewable natural gas and sustainable aviation fuel. We've achieved 28.8% field capture efficiency, have 35+ California dairy LOIs representing 89,000+ head, and are launching our first multi-day pilot in April 2026. We're a 10-person team backed by Draper University, building toward planetary-scale climate impact.
The Role
We're looking for a driven, detail-oriented intern to support PLANET.TECH's regulatory and carbon markets strategy. You'll work directly with the CEO and our scientific advisors to build relationships with federal and state regulatory agencies, research carbon credit pathways, and prepare foundational documentation for EPA and CARB filings.
This is not a "get coffee" internship. You'll be doing real work that directly impacts the company's trajectory and the future of climate technology.
What You'll Do
- Research EPA Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) pathway petition requirements for a novel enteric methane capture feedstock, including documentation requirements, lifecycle GHG analysis frameworks, and petition submission procedures
- Research CARB Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) pathway application requirements, including Tier 1 and Tier 2 calculator frameworks and methodology amendment processes
- Draft introductory outreach communications to EPA and CARB program officers on behalf of the CEO
- Track and organize regulatory contacts, meeting notes, and filing timelines in our project management system
- Monitor relevant regulatory developments including rulemaking updates, public comment periods, and new pathway approvals
- Support non-dilutive funding research (federal grants from DOE, USDA, EPA) and assist with grant application materials
- Research corporate Scope 3 compliance programs and identify potential NRE or consulting opportunities with food and energy companies
- Prepare briefing documents and presentation materials for regulatory meetings
Who You Are
- Pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Public Affairs, Political Science, Agricultural Economics, Energy Policy, or a related field — graduate students welcome
- Strong written and verbal communication skills — you can write a professional email to a federal agency and feel comfortable on a Zoom call with a program officer
- Familiar with (or genuinely curious about) carbon markets, renewable fuel credits, greenhouse gas accounting, or environmental regulation
- Detail-oriented with strong research and organizational skills
- A self-starter who can work independently with clear direction but limited hand-holding
- Comfortable in a fast-moving startup environment where you'll wear multiple hats
- Bonus: Knowledge of the RFS RIN system, LCFS credit markets, agricultural sustainability, or livestock industry economics
What You'll Get
- Direct mentorship from the CEO and exposure to every aspect of building a climate tech startup
- Hands-on experience with real EPA and CARB regulatory processes — not a simulation
- Networking access to our investor, advisor, and agricultural industry contacts
- A front-row seat to a company aiming to prevent 14% of global methane emissions
- This is an unpaid internship. Strong performers may be considered for future opportunities as the company grows.
To Apply
Send your resume and a short note (3–4 sentences) on why carbon markets or environmental regulation interests you. No cover letter needed — we'd rather see how you think than how you format.
