Supply Chain and Manufacturing Intern

PLANET.TECH is a venture-backed climate technology startup developing wearable methane capture devices for dairy cattle. We convert cow burps — the single largest source of agricultural methane — into renewable natural gas and sustainable aviation fuel. Our mission: prevent 14% of global methane emissions while creating new revenue streams for farmers.

Overview

PLANET.TECH is transitioning from prototype to production. This intern will support the manufacturing setup and supply chain development for our Mootality health monitoring collar (near-term) and Moola methane capture device (longer-term). This is primarily focused on supporting the team with manufacturing and supply chain setup for Mootality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and evaluate contract manufacturers for small-batch electronics and hardware production
  • Build and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) for Mootality and Moola devices
  • Source components and negotiate with suppliers for sensors, PCBs, enclosures, and assemblies
  • Assist with vendor qualification and quality assessment processes
  • Support design-for-manufacturing (DFM) analysis with the engineering team
  • Help develop quality control processes and incoming inspection procedures
  • Track component lead times, pricing, and availability across multiple suppliers
  • Research packaging, shipping, and logistics requirements for farm-deployed hardware
  • Assist with cost modeling and unit economics analysis for production planning
  • Document supply chain processes, vendor contacts, and procurement workflows

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field at UT Austin or Texas A&M
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes (injection molding, PCB assembly, 3D printing)
  • Comfortable with spreadsheets and data analysis (Excel/Google Sheets)
  • Strong research and communication skills for vendor outreach
  • Detail-oriented with ability to track multiple workstreams
  • Self-starter who can manage ambiguity in an early-stage environment

Bonus

  • Experience with ERP or inventory management systems
  • Familiarity with electronics manufacturing (SMT assembly, PCB fabrication)
  • Prior internship in manufacturing, procurement, or supply chain
  • Knowledge of quality standards (ISO 9001 or similar)
  • Interest in hardware startups, climate tech, or agricultural technology
