Library Assistant III [UCLA Film & Television Archive, AMIA Pathways Fellowship, FTVA07]
Duties:
The Association of Moving Image Archivist (AMIA) Pathways Fellowship will support one individual from a traditionally underrepresented identity group. The goal of this internship and the AMIA Pathways program is to support and mentor the professional journeys of aspiring individuals from traditionally underrepresented communities to find their learning objectives and help guide their development as professionals in the field of audiovisual archiving.
Under supervision of the Head of Collection Services, the AMIA Pathways Fellow will assist with the archival processing and/or post-processing of items acquired by the Archive. They will sort, research, assess and determine archival value of select collections from the Archive’s holdings. Project tasks will include properly preparing video items and films for long term storage by affixing labels and barcodes and physically handling and winding film elements onto archival cores and rehoused into archival film cans. During this process, the AMIA Pathways Fellow will obtain and document information into the Archive’s FileMaker Pro asset management database utilizing established archival protocols and best practices in the field of moving image archiving. Data found will be used to facilitate formal MARC cataloging and eventual online public access to collections information.
Under the supervision of staff in the Research and Study Center, the intern will develop research resources related to these collections in order to create historical and archival context that will assist future researchers interested in these holdings.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
Qualified candidates should demonstrate an interest in moving image archival collections, conservation and preservation, and research related to film and/or television history.
