Associate GenAI Engineer

Associate GenAI Engineer

Enterprise Technology & AI Transformation

We run a large enterprise technology organization — the kind that powers critical infrastructure, manages complex transformation programs, and operates under real security and governance requirements. We're embedding GenAI into everything we do, and we're looking for someone early in their career who wants to do more than watch from the sidelines.

This is a role where your work will ship. You will build things that real teams use. You will sit alongside senior engineers and architects on programs that matter. And if you perform, there is a clear path to a permanent, senior role as our GenAI practice grows.

What You Will Actually Do

No fetching coffee. No slide decks about AI strategy. Here is what your days will look like:

  • Build and iterate on GenAI-powered tools that help our engineering and delivery teams work faster — think intelligent code review assistants, documentation generators, test automation, and legacy code analysis
  • Work alongside our Principal GenAI Engineer to embed AI acceleration into active delivery programs, including legacy modernization projects
  • Research new tools, models, and frameworks — and actually present your findings to the team with a recommendation, not just a summary
  • Participate in architecture reviews and contribute to our growing library of GenAI reference implementations

What We Are Looking For

We care more about what you have built than where you went to school.

Required:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field — or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs in practice: prompt engineering, API integration, fine-tuning concepts, or building applications on top of foundation models (GPT, Claude, Llama, Mistral, or similar)
  • Python proficiency — you can write clean, readable code and you know how to debug it
  • Understanding of RAG concepts and vector databases (even from coursework or personal projects counts)
  • Genuine curiosity about how AI works, where it fails, and what responsible use actually means in practice

Strong differentiators — we will notice these:

  • A GitHub portfolio with real GenAI projects — even messy ones show us how you think
  • Experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar orchestration frameworks
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) — even free-tier experimentation
  • Any experience working within security or compliance constraints — enterprise internships, research with IRB requirements, etc.
  • Strong written communication — AI work in an enterprise context requires clear documentation, not just working code

What You Will Learn

This role is designed to accelerate your development. In your first year, you will gain:

  • Real enterprise delivery experience — the context that most early-career AI engineers spend years waiting for
  • Hands-on exposure to governance, security, and compliance requirements that shape how AI actually gets deployed in production
  • Mentorship from a Principal GenAI Engineer with deep enterprise experience
  • Exposure to large-scale legacy modernization programs — a skillset that is increasingly rare and valuable
  • A seat at the table when we make architecture and tooling decisions — your input will count

Honest About Who Thrives Here

This role will suit you well if:

  • You want to ship real things fast and are comfortable with the occasional pivot
  • You are energized by complexity, not intimidated by it
  • You can work independently and ask for help at the right time — not too early, not too late
  • You think critically about AI — you are excited by the potential and clear-eyed about the risks

This role will frustrate you if:

  • You want a highly structured, process-heavy environment where every task is pre-defined
  • You are looking for pure research or experimentation without delivery accountability
  • You are not comfortable navigating ambiguity

How to Apply

Apply through Handshake with your resume. We strongly encourage you to include:

  • A link to your GitHub, portfolio, or any GenAI project you are proud of — even unfinished ones
  • A short note (3-5 sentences) on the most interesting AI problem you have worked on and what you learned from it

We read every application. If your project link is compelling, we will reach out — even if your GPA is not perfect.
