PUB SUMMER ACADEMY HEAD RESIDENT

JOB TITLE: PUB Summer Academy Head Resident 

DATES: June 12-Aug 5, 2026 (dates may vary slightly)


RATE: $800/week gross plus room & board HOURS: 40 hours Sunday evening - Friday evening


REPORTS TO: Project Director POSITIONS AVAILABLE: 1


PURPOSE: Live in and continually supervise PUB’s residential environment (high school minors and Res Team).


PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the selection of the Peer Mentors (PMs).
  • Supervise the Residential Team (Peer Mentors (PM) and one Night-Watch Person), including facilitating frequent team meetings and weekly performance reviews for the purpose of professional development.
  • Partner with PUB’s Admin Team to present initial training and assure PM participation in ongoing training.
  • Develop and ensure implementation of comprehensive team duty rosters, such as on-call, recreational activity supervision, and other relevant duties.
  • Coordinate identification and implementation of a six-week evening schedule of social, cultural, and recreational activities. Assure Scholars’ timely arrival at and active participation in scheduled evening activities.
  • Conduct nightly dorm meetings with Scholars and PMs. Monitor mediation team proceedings. Attend joint meetings with the Administrative and Academic Teams as required.
  • Assure accurate and thorough pre and post-building and room inventories. Liaise with University Housing to ensure that the physical facility is consistently properly maintained.
  • Advocate for PMs to ensure that they have the resources necessary to carry out their responsibilities.
  • Debrief with Night Watch each morning, inform the Administrative Team of extraordinary occurrences and/or rules violations. Review w/Res Team and submit weekly Behavior-Points Report by 9:00 a.m. Fridays.
  • Follow the provided University procedures immediately for cases of emergencies.
  • Facilitate cohesive working relationships among, and develop and implement a forum for, Academic and Peer
    mentors to share information regarding Scholars.
  • Assure Scholar and PM adherence to PUB and University policies and procedures on campus and on field trips.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Project Director.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
 

  • Experience that demonstrates above-average maturity and patience. A flexible attitude with good leadership, team, communication, supervisory, and programming skills.
  • At least two years' previous experience working with at-risk, culturally diverse youth, preferably in a residential setting. 
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record. (Must qualify for driving OU vehicles.)
  • Commitment to being a positive role model, helping students prepare for college, and inclusivity. 
  • Participation in PUB training June 12-20.
  • Graduate status preferred. Near-completion of a bachelor’s degree may be considered. 
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

CONSTRAINTS

DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES, THE HEAD RESIDENT CANNOT WORK ELSEWHERE OR ATTEND CLASSES DURING THE SUMMER ACADEMY.
