Howmet Structure Systems is currently seeking an experienced College Intern to join our team in Martinsville, Virginia for a 3-month summer term. Summary

This position is located in our Martinsville, VA plant. Our EHS Internship Program is designed to provide challenging EHS assignments to university students who are pursuing a degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Fire Protection or Environmental Science.

Activities completed during our EHS internship program are designed to provide practical application of techniques and contribute to business results. Typical activities may include:


  • Assist with development and implementation of EHS policy and procedures


  • Conduct fatality prevention assessments


  • Conduct industrial hygiene and ventilation assessments


  • Assist with development and implementation of sustainability initiatives


  • Conduct environmental compliance related activities


  • Develop and conduct employee training


  • Assist with continuous improvement projects


Basic Qualifications:



  • Candidates must be pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.




  • Candidates must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.


Preferred Skills:


  • Excellent initiative, learning orientation and attention to detail.


  • Strong communication, analytical, problem solving and human relations skills.


  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner.


  • Seeking strong verbal and written communication skills


  • Excellent analytical and organization skills




  • Relevant internship/work/research experience preferred.



  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.


  • Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.
