Business Systems Automation Intern
Position Summary
Ecopax is a leading manufacturer of food packaging solutions focused on innovation, reliability, and operational excellence.
We are looking for an Business Systems Automation Intern to help build automation tools, dashboards, data workflows, and system integrations that improve daily business operations.
This role is ideal for a highly self-motivated learner who can quickly understand unfamiliar business systems, work through ambiguous problems, and use code, data, and modern AI tools to create practical solutions.
You will work across operations, accounting, HR, production, shipping, and business systems to reduce manual work, improve data visibility, and help Ecopax build a more automated, data-driven, and AI-enabled operating environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn and understand business workflows across operations, accounting, HR, production, shipping, and other departments.
- Identify repetitive, manual, or error-prone processes that can be improved through automation, data workflows, or AI-assisted tools.
- Build Python scripts, internal tools, and lightweight applications to automate business processes.
- Build and maintain ETL pipelines, data-cleaning workflows, and internal databases that power reporting and automation tools.
- Work with messy real-world data, including spreadsheets, PDFs, forms, ERP exports, and system reports.
- Use SQL to clean, join, validate, and analyze operational data.
- Support integrations between ERP, Microsoft 365 / SharePoint, and other business systems.
- Use APIs, browser automation, scheduled jobs, and lightweight web tools to connect systems and improve workflows.
- Explore AI and LLM tools to support document extraction, data processing, research, reporting, workflow automation, and internal knowledge workflows.
- Test, validate, document, and maintain tools so they are reliable and usable by non-technical teams.
- Communicate clearly with internal users to understand requirements, explain tradeoffs, and improve solutions over time.
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, Operations Engineering, Business Analytics, or a related field. Master's-level candidates preferred.
- Programming experience in Python, with strong ability to use AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot, or ChatGPT to accelerate development. Candidates should be able to understand, test, debug, and take ownership of the code they ship.
- Familiarity with SQL and working with structured data.
- Comfortable using Excel, CSV files, and messy real-world datasets.
- Strong self-learning ability: able to quickly learn unfamiliar tools, systems, business processes, and technical concepts through documentation, experimentation, AI tools, and asking good questions.
- Detail-oriented, curious, and able to work with both technical and non-technical teams.
- Strong interest in applying technology to real business and manufacturing operations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with any of the following is a plus:
- Python automation, data analysis, or internal tool development.
- REST APIs, JSON, OAuth, webhooks, or system integrations.
- Microsoft Graph, SharePoint, Excel automation, or Power BI.
- FastAPI, Flask, Streamlit, SQLite, DuckDB, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
- Playwright, Selenium, or other browser automation tools.
AI Mindset
We are especially interested in candidates who are excited about AI and modern productivity tools.
A strong plus would be regular use of tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Codex, Cursor, Copilot, Claude Code, or similar platforms. Candidates should be curious about new AI developments and interested in using AI to improve coding, research, data processing, workflow automation, and business decision-making.
Experience with LLM APIs, prompt design, structured outputs, function calling, RAG, or agentic AI workflows is a plus, but not required.
