Master's Level Internship
Are you seeking a paid master’s level internship with an organization that has served the Kalamazoo community for over 30 years? Do you have a passion for trauma informed care, recovery, and empowering individuals to succeed? An internship opportunity with Integrated Services of Kalamazoo (ISK) could be for you!
ISK is now accepting internship applications for the 2026-2027 academic school year. ISK works with youth, families, and adults with mental illnesses, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders to help them succeed. Our master’s level internships provide a paid opportunity to support this mission while growing in various specialties. Available internship areas include the following:
- ACT: Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is an integrated approach to providing community-based services for people whose lives have been disrupted by the challenges and symptoms of mental illness. Services are provided in an outreach fashion by a team of multi-disciplinary professionals. ACT shares exclusive responsibility for treatment and service decisions and is the fixed point of contact for individuals served.
- DBT: The Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) team provides treatment for adult and adolescent clients who struggle with intense emotions, chronic suicidality, self-harm, and difficulties in relationships. Some of the services provided include DBT skills groups (where clients learn and practice skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness); individual therapy sessions; as well as risk assessment and safety planning,
- Healthy Transitions: The Healthy Transition Program is designed to support high-risk, diverse youth and young adults (ages 16–25) as they navigate the transition to adulthood. Our foundational approach is the Transition to Independence Process (TIP) model, an evidence-supported practice centered on engagement, relationship development, and skill building. This is an intense community-based position looking for a candidate that is comfortable working in a variety of settings with high-risk young people.
- Home-Based: The Home-Based Therapy program provides intensive, family-centered mental health services to children and adolescents within their home and community environments. Services focus on strengthening emotional regulation, improving family functioning, and reducing behaviors that interfere with daily life. The program is designed to prevent higher levels of care and support youth in maintaining stability in the least restrictive setting.
- Justice Department- Corrections: TBD
- MIBHT: Mobile Integrated Behavioral Health Team (MIBHT) provides case management to those who are unhoused and have a mental health and/or substance diagnosis and can’t/won’t follow through with traditional ISK services. MIBHT works directly in shelters to meet individuals where they are and provide easy access to services for those who are difficult to engage.
- MST: Our Multisystemic Therapy (MST) team works with adolescents who are involved in the juvenile justice system in Kalamazoo County, along with their caregiver(s) and other adults in the lives of the youth, to decrease delinquent behaviors and improve the youth’s functioning in their homes, schools, and communities. The MST model is a highly structured and evidence-based method for helping families create practical, sustainable behavior change in all members of the family that will contribute to the youth's success. An intern who becomes a part of the MST team will be organized, detail-oriented, skilled at engaging with both teenagers and adults (some of whom may be reluctant to engage with providers), and comfortable maintaining direct and assertive therapeutic communication with client families.
