Test Lab Intern

Henniges Automotive has an opportunity for a Test Lab Intern to support our Engineering team located at our World Headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The Test Laboratory Intern will support engineering and validation activities by assisting with laboratory testing, data collection, and documentation. This role provides hands-on exposure to test methods, laboratory equipment, and engineering procedures while working under the direction of experienced Test Engineers and/or Lab Supervisor. The intern contributes to daily lab operations while developing practical engineering skills in a controlled, safety-focused environment. 

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Perform laboratory testing and support activities in accordance with prescribed internal and external standards.
  • Assist with setup, operation, and adjustment of laboratory equipment and test fixtures.
  • Conduct mechanical, physical, durability, or environmental tests as assigned.
  • Collect, record, and organize test data using manual logs and computerized systems.
  • Support preparation of test reports documenting procedures, results, and observations.
  • Verify samples and test results against internal specifications or customer requirements.
  • Maintain laboratory organization, cleanliness, and compliance with safety requirements.
  • Interface with engineering, quality, and lab staff to support ongoing test work.
  • Follow all lab safety, access, and prototype-handling requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Lab Supervisor.
  • Managing multiple test activities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Learning and correctly applying lab procedures and safety practices.
  • Meeting test timing expectations in a fast-paced laboratory setting.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related technical field. Preferred: Pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline.
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited four (4) year higher education institution
  • Minimum GPA: 2.7
  • Prior laboratory, manufacturing, or hands-on technical experience

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to follow written procedures and technical instructions.
  • Familiarity with basic test equipment, measurement tools, or data recording.
  • Interest in testing, validation, or product development.
