Ghana Summer Research Experience

Overview

Are you a graduate student with strong mathematics background interested in traveling to an African country for an exciting research study on children's health? Do you love applying  advanced quantitative data analysis to solving challenging global health problems? Are you interested in learning about a different culture? 

Deliverables and Outputs: Together with the faculty supervisor, 

  • Travel to Ghana in the summer (June) of 2026 
  • Participate in data collection and entry
  • Analyse quantitative data using advance regression and machine learning methods.

Benefits

  • The student will have the opportunity to spend one to two months in  Ghana
  •  The fellowship is funded by a grant from the US National Institutes of Health. It will offer competitive hourly pay  

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants should have a master's or PhD program, ideally in mathematics or applied statistics 
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Be willing to travel to Ghana in the summer (June/July) 
  • Be willing to commit to a research study during the summer
  • Familiarity to Ghana or exposure or experience in low income country desired
