Marketing & Social Intern
Marketing & Social Intern — MHICO (Summer 2026)
Hi, we are Sayf and Julia, co-founders of MHICO. Let us tell you what we're doing and what we need help with.
Anyone who's ever tried to make sense of a medical bill knows the feeling. You get a piece of paper in the mail months after a doctor's visit, it lists charges you don't recognize, and when you call your insurance company to ask what happened, you get bounced between three departments who blame each other and eventually put you on hold until you give up. Or you spend an hour comparing health plans during open enrollment, pick one that looks decent, and find out six months later it doesn't cover the specialist you actually need.
Americans pay more for healthcare than anyone else in the world and most of us have no clue what we're buying. Insurance companies designed it this way on purpose. Confused people don't fight back, don't switch plans, and quietly pay bills they shouldn't owe. Meanwhile employers spend tens of thousands per employee on benefits their workforce barely uses, because nobody can decode them.
MHICO is what we're building to fix that. We use AI to pull data directly from insurance companies, translate it into something humans can actually read, help people fight bills and denied claims, and recommend plans that fit their lives. We work with individual consumers, and we work with employers — HR teams who want their people to actually understand the benefits they're paying billions for.
We're early. Two co-founders. Nothing here is polished yet.
Where you come in
We need someone to help us get MHICO's name out there on social. Right now we barely exist online and we don't have time to fix that on our own. We're looking for a marketing intern who'll take ownership of our social presence and build it into something real over the summer.
The trickier part of the job: we have three very different audiences. Consumers on Instagram and TikTok — some young, frustrated with the system, who respond to content that's funny or validating or both. People shopping Medicare plans and overwhelmed by the confusion. And HR and benefits managers at small and large companies — they're on LinkedIn, want to look smart in front of their peers, and respond to a completely different voice. You'd help us crack all three.
What the summer would actually look like:
- Running our day-to-day social on LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, and X
- Experimenting a lot with formats and hooks on each platform (a lot of it will flop, we learn why, we keep going)
- Making short videos, graphics, posts
- Helping us think through how MHICO should sound as a brand
- Writing blog drafts, newsletter copy, and other things we're currently too busy to write
- Tracking what's working and telling us when something we're doing isn't
You'd report to Julia (CEO) directly. We'd meet 1-2 times weekly, probably more in the early weeks. We give honest feedback, not corporate fluff. You'll have a lot of freedom and a lot of responsibility.
What you get out of it
- A summer working on something that genuinely matters at an AI-native startup
- Direct mentorship from the founders, including 15 years of healthcare experience, and exposure to every part of an early-stage company — product, engineering, sales, fundraising, the messy in-between
- Portfolio work with real metrics behind it
- Academic credit support if your school will work with us on the requirements
- A pretty rare combo of skills: consumer and B2B marketing in parallel
- An honest reference letter from people who actually know your work
Who we're looking for
- Currently in school (undergrad or grad), studying marketing, comms, business, journalism, or something adjacent
- You don't just consume on social, you make things on it. Show us an account, a project, or a piece of content you're proud of.
- You can write, and more importantly you can shift voices — what works on TikTok does not work on LinkedIn
- Comfortable with ambiguity. We won't always know what we want. Sometimes you'll need to push back.
- Bonus if you know Canva, Figma, or CapCut; have any healthcare experience; or hold strong opinions about AI
The honest details
- We are VERY early stage. This is unpaid. We know that matters and we want to be upfront. We'll support academic credit and write you a serious reference letter, but we won't pretend the trade-off isn't real.
- Around 15 hours a week
- Mostly remote with some in-person time if you're in the NYC/NJ area
- Flexible around your school schedule
- We are also planning to raise funds soon and depending on your performance, you'd be eligible for a bonus and / or equity at the end of your internship
To apply Send your resume and a few lines on why you want to do this. If you've made a TikTok, Reel, or LinkedIn post you're proud of, link it. If you've ever sat on hold with your insurance company and wanted to scream, mention that too.
