Entry-Level Technologist
Entry-Level Technologist
Fireclay Tile • Richmond, CA (3 days/week onsite) + monthly travel to Aromas, CA • Full-time
About the Role
We’re creating a brand-new position that blends frontline IT support in a working tile factory with hands-on, AI-driven software development. If you love troubleshooting real hardware on a real shop floor, but you also want to ship software that actually changes how the business runs, this role was built for you.
You’ll be the go-to technical resource for the people making and shipping our product in Richmond, while also owning small-to-medium internal software projects — the kind that used to require a contractor or a six-month roadmap slot, but which a sharp early-career technologist can now deliver in days using modern AI coding tools.
This is not a help-desk-only role. We expect you to grow into a builder.
Who You Are
- A recent IT, CS, or related grad (or equivalent self-taught experience) who genuinely enjoys IT work.
- Comfortable being the person someone walks up to and asks, “my label printer is doing the thing again — can you help?”
- Curious and ambitious — you want to own projects, not just close tickets.
- Excited about AI-assisted coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) and willing to learn fast.
- Strong written and verbal communicator. You can explain a technical issue to a production lead and a software design to a manager.
- Reliable, on time, and willing to be onsite in Richmond three days a week and travel to our Aromas factory once or twice a month.
What You’ll Do — IT & Frontline Support
- Be the first line of IT support for the Richmond factory: workstations, label and shipping printers, barcode scanners, networking, A/V, phones, and shop-floor tablets/kiosks.
- Triage, troubleshoot, and resolve day-to-day tickets; escalate cleanly when something needs vendor or senior engineering involvement.
- Manage user onboarding/offboarding, account provisioning, MFA, and access reviews across our SaaS stack (Google Workspace, Slack, Salesforce, Shopify, Akeneo, etc.).
- Maintain inventory of hardware, peripherals, and licenses. Order, image, and deploy new equipment.
- Travel to our Aromas, CA factory once or twice a month to support the team there in person.
- Document everything — runbooks, FAQs, internal how-tos — so the next problem solves itself.
What You’ll Do — AI-Driven Software Projects
- Take ownership of small-to-medium internal software projects from intake through deployment.
- Use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and similar) to build internal tools, dashboards, scripts, and integrations — the kind of work that closes the gap between our SaaS systems and the way the shop floor actually operates.
- Write SQL against our data warehouse (Snowflake) to answer business questions and feed reports.
- Build and maintain small integrations and automations between Salesforce, Shopify, Akeneo, and other systems.
- Partner with operations leaders to translate “we keep doing this thing in a spreadsheet” into a working internal tool.
- Learn our codebase, our data model, and our deployment practices, and contribute back to them.
What You’ll Learn
This role is designed as a launch pad. In your first 12–18 months you’ll get hands-on exposure to:
- Modern AI-assisted software development workflows.
- Production data systems: Snowflake, Salesforce, Shopify Plus, Akeneo PIM.
- IT operations at a multi-site manufacturing company.
- How to scope, ship, and support your own software in a real business.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field — or equivalent practical experience.
- Working knowledge of Windows and macOS, basic networking (DHCP, DNS, Wi-Fi troubleshooting), and common SaaS admin concepts.
- Some programming experience in any modern language (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar). You don’t need to be a senior engineer — you need to be willing to write code with AI tools and learn quickly.
- Ability to lift and move standard IT equipment (monitors, PCs, printers).
- Reliable transportation; ability to travel to Aromas, CA 1–2 times per month.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
Nice to Have
- Internship, coursework, or side projects involving SQL, REST APIs, or web development.
- Exposure to AI coding assistants (Claude, Cursor, Copilot, ChatGPT) for real projects.
- Experience supporting users in a manufacturing, warehouse, retail, or field environment.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace admin, Slack admin, or Salesforce.
Schedule, Location & Compensation
- Richmond, CA factory, onsite 3 days per week; remaining days remote or as-needed onsite.
- 1–2 trips per month to our Aromas, CA factory (mileage reimbursed)
