Assessing Assistant

Are you interested in property appraising, assessing, or working within a municipal government? The City of Novi is seeking a motivated part-time Assessing Assistant to support our Assessing Department in gathering property information, conducting field reviews, and maintaining accurate property records.

This part-time position works approximately 20 hours per week and offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in municipal assessment and property valuation while working with experienced professionals who serve our community.

What You'll Do:

As an Assessing Assistant, you'll support the City Assessor and appraisal staff through a combination of fieldwork and office responsibilities. Duties include:

  • Conduct exterior field inspections of residential properties to verify property information
  • Gather and reconcile property data using assessment records, GIS maps, and field observations
  • Measure and verify property characteristics such as decks, driveways, and related features
  • Take exterior property photographs and document observations
  • Enter and update information BS&A Assessing.net
  • Assist residents and staff with phone calls, customer inquiries, and front counter support
  • Support administrative projects including filing and related office tasks
  • Assist full-time appraisal staff with special projects and department needs

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Valid Michigan driver's license with a good driving record
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Preferred qualifications:

  • Community college coursework or pursuit of an associate degree or higher
  • MCAT or MCAO certification
  • Knowledge of BS&A Assessing.net
  • Experience in real estate, assessing, appraisal, or related fields

Compensation: $18-$22, depending on experience and qualifications
