Engineering Intern - Metals Lab

ENGINEERING INTERN – METALS LAB 

Location: Dubuque
Schedule: Full-Time or Part-Time Internship | Flexible Hours Available
Compensation: $25.00 / hour
Industry: Manufacturing / Metals / Engineering

A local Dubuque manufacturing company in the Dubuque area is seeking an Engineering Intern to support its Engineering Department. This is an excellent opportunity for a student pursuing an engineering or technical degree to gain real-world experience in a manufacturing environment while working alongside experienced engineering and quality professionals.

This internship offers hands-on exposure to metallurgical testing, quality processes, lab analysis, and manufacturing operations, helping build practical skills that directly apply to future engineering careers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with metallurgical and quality testing of materials and manufactured components 
  • Conduct hardness testing and document test results accurately 
  • Prepare and evaluate microstructures using polishing, mounting, etching, and microscopy techniques 
  • Support laboratory analysis to ensure products meet engineering and quality specifications 
  • Assist with data collection, reporting, and documentation of quality findings 
  • Help maintain testing equipment, laboratory organization, and quality records 
  • Partner with engineering, quality, and production teams on process improvement initiatives 

 

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a hands-on environment 
  • Comfortable learning laboratory testing procedures and technical equipment 
  • Strong communication and organizational skills 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred 
  • Experience using microscopes, precision measuring tools, or laboratory equipment 
  • Knowledge of engineering drawings, measurements, or material properties
