Community Health Worker (CHW) Intern — Maternal & Family Health (Remote)

Join My Baby My Way Foundation, a mission-driven nonprofit improving outcomes for mothers, babies, and families. As a Community Health Worker (CHW) Intern, you will gain hands-on experience as a community advocate, educator, and connector. Learning to help clients navigate healthcare, social services, and wellness resources under the guidance of experienced staff.

Our CHW program supports 15,000+ mothers, babies, and families each month through community health navigation, education, and digital care tools. This internship is an opportunity to build real-world skills while contributing to meaningful work in maternal and family health.

This is an internship position with paid training and a stipend. The role is entirely remote.

What You'll Learn & Do

  • Deliver culturally responsive education on pregnancy, postpartum recovery, infant care, and family wellness.
  • Help clients understand care plans, appointments, and available benefits.
  • Connect families to housing, food, transportation, mental health, and medical resources.
  • Support engagement with MyBabyMyWay.AI and digital care tools.
  • Document services accurately following HIPAA and program protocols.
  • Participate in outreach activities and collaborative care coordination.
  • Work with supervisors and mentors to meet quality, engagement, and reporting standards.

Training Provided (Paid)

All interns complete the MBMW CHW training pathway, which includes:

  • Maternal & Family Health Foundations
  • Cultural humility and advocacy
  • Trauma-informed engagement
  • Documentation standards
  • Digital systems & workflow tools
  • Client communication and outreach practices

Ongoing coaching, mentorship, and professional development are provided throughout the internship.

Required Certifications & Clearances

  • Background check clearance
  • Mandated Reporter certification (may be completed with us)
  • CPR & First Aid with CHW enhancement delivered through MBMW in partnership with the American Heart Association
  • Successful completion of internal CHW training

Qualifications

  • Commitment to serving families and advancing health equity
  • Strong communication and reliability
  • Comfortable using phone, text, and digital platforms
  • Ability to follow structured workflows and documentation standards
  • Bilingual skills highly valued

Experience in community work, healthcare navigation, outreach, or social services is helpful but not required. This internship is well-suited to students and early-career individuals looking to enter the maternal and family health field.

Internship Details & Schedule

  • Internship position (non-employee)
  • 120-hour internship total
  • Part-time, with flexible scheduling based on program needs and client availability
  • Typically completed over 6–10 weeks, depending on weekly hours
