Software Engineering Summer Intern
Software Engineering Summer Intern
About Forkast
Forkast is a Wharton-backed, AI-native revenue management and restaurant intelligence startup helping restaurant chains make smarter decisions around pricing, competitors, delivery channels, menu strategy, and local market positioning. Our platform brings together restaurant data, competitor intelligence, menu pricing, delivery marketplace links, location insights, and internal dashboards to help teams understand what is happening in their markets and act faster.
Role Overview
Forkast is looking for a Software Engineering Summer Intern to support a wide range of technical work across our product, data, and engineering systems. This role is ideal for someone who wants hands-on experience at an early-stage startup and is excited to work on real technical problems, not just isolated intern tasks.
You may help with frontend dashboards, backend scripts, data pipelines, API workflows, automation tools, internal review systems, QA, and technical documentation. The work will vary based on company priorities, so we are looking for someone adaptable, curious, and comfortable jumping into different parts of the product.
What You’ll Work On
- Build and improve internal tools used by the Forkast team.
- Help develop dashboards and product workflows for restaurant data, competitor intelligence, and pricing analysis.
- Write scripts to clean, validate, transform, and organize restaurant datasets.
- Support backend workflows involving APIs, databases, structured data, and automation.
- Help test and debug systems related to competitor matching, menu extraction, pricing data, and delivery platform links.
- Assist with QA to make sure outputs from scripts, dashboards, and data pipelines are accurate.
- Work with CSVs, spreadsheets, databases, and internal review queues.
- Document technical processes so workflows can be repeated, improved, and handed off clearly.
- Collaborate with product, data, and engineering team members to turn messy business problems into usable technical solutions.
Ideal Qualifications
- Experience with at least one programming language such as Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or SQL.
- Interest in software engineering, data engineering, automation, internal tools, or product development.
- Comfortable working with data files such as CSVs, spreadsheets, JSON, or database tables.
- Basic understanding of APIs, databases, frontend development, or backend workflows is a plus.
- Experience with Git/GitHub is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to debug unclear issues.
- Detail-oriented and able to validate whether technical outputs are correct.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment where priorities can change quickly.
- Interest in AI, restaurant technology, data products, or B2B SaaS is a plus.
What You’ll Learn
- How an early-stage startup builds real software and internal systems.
- How frontend dashboards, backend workflows, data pipelines, and APIs connect in a working product.
- How restaurant pricing, competitor intelligence, and delivery data are turned into software tools.
- How to debug, document, and improve technical workflows used by a startup team.
- How to work across product, engineering, and data in a practical startup environment.
