Internship and Organization Description

Lawly is an early-stage startup building a marketplace for law school admissions consulting. Our platform is built with Next.js, React, TypeScript, Node.js, and PostgreSQL — experience with this specific stack is essential. You’ll work directly with the founding team to build real product features that ship to users.

This is not a traditional role where work is isolated or heavily siloed. From day one, you’ll contribute meaningful production code and help shape core product decisions.

We use modern AI-assisted development tools extensively. Success in this role depends on using these tools effectively while applying strong engineering judgment to produce reliable, maintainable software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain high-quality software features using modern AI-assisted development tools.
  • Thoroughly validate your own code before every pull request and merge, ensuring new functionality works as intended and does not introduce regressions.
  • Write clean, well-structured, maintainable, and production-ready code that follows established engineering best practices.
  • Critically evaluate AI-generated code rather than accepting it at face value, ensuring it is correct, efficient, secure, and maintainable.
  • Debug issues efficiently and take ownership of code quality from development through deployment.
  • Collaborate closely with the product and engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable features.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (completed only; current students are not eligible).
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript.
  • Experience building modern full-stack web applications.
  • Familiarity with our technology stack, including:
    • Frontend: Next.js 15 (App Router), React 19, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS
    • Backend: Fastify 5, Node.js, TypeScript
    • Database: PostgreSQL (NeonDB) with Drizzle ORM
    • Authentication: WorkOS (Google OAuth and email/password) with JWT cookie-based authentication
    • Payments: Stripe Checkout and Stripe Connect
    • Real-time Messaging: Supabase Broadcast Channels
    • Email: Brevo
    • File Storage: AWS S3
    • SMS: Twilio
    • Hosting: Vercel
  • Experience using Git and collaborative software development workflows.
  • Experience using AI coding tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Perfect english language skills required.

What You’ll Gain

  • Direct mentorship from an experienced founding team.
  • Ownership over meaningful product features.
  • Real-world startup experience shipping production software.
  • Hands-on experience with modern AI-assisted development workflows.
  • The opportunity to have measurable impact on a live product.
