Job Title: AI Automation Engineer Internship

Founded in Seattle, WA, 6crickets is a cutting-edge education technology startup. Our mission and passion is to bring the best expanded learning and enrichment to every student in every school. 

We are looking for an AI Automation Engineer Intern to help design and implement AI‑powered automations across our operations. You will work closely with our team to turn real business problems into robust technical solutions using modern AI APIs and automation frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain scripts and services that connect AI models (e.g., via APIs) with our internal tools (CRM, databases, dashboards, email, etc.).
  • Implement end‑to‑end workflows using Python or JavaScript plus automation platforms (webhooks, schedulers, CI, etc.).
  • Design and refine prompts and system instructions for reliability, latency, and cost.
  • Integrate external APIs and data sources, handle authentication, and manage secrets/configs securely.
  • Write tests, logging, and basic monitoring for key automations.
  • Document architecture, data flows, and usage so the team can understand and extend what you build.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Can learn and employ new knowledge independently
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, ideally Python or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Experience building projects that call web APIs (REST/JSON), parse responses, and handle errors.
  • Familiarity with Git and basic software engineering practices (version control, code reviews, branching).
  • Comfortable working with JSON, HTTP requests, and environment variables.
  • Experience using AI APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) in personal or class or previous work projects.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to break down vague requirements into technical tasks.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with one or more of:
    • Web frameworks (Angular, Django, Django Rest framework, FastAPI, Flask, Express, Next.js)
    • Workflow/automation tools (Zapier, Make, n8n, Airflow, custom cron jobs)
    • Databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Firebase, or similar)
  • Exposure to basic cloud services (AWS, GCP, or Azure) for deploying services or scripts.
  • Interest in measuring and optimizing for latency, cost, and reliability.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to design and ship AI automations for real users.
  • How to evaluate trade‑offs between no‑code tools, scripts, and more scalable services.
  • Best practices for prompt design, error handling, monitoring, performance and cost optimization and security in AI‑powered systems.
  • How to collaborate with ops, non‑technical stakeholders, and engineers to define requirements and validate impact.

Internship Details

  • Duration: 6-12 weeks or longer
  • Hours: 20-40 hours/week
  • Compensation: $17.5
  • Start date: Flexible
