Leadership Development Associate

Position Summary

The Leadership Development Associate is a multi-disciplinary, growth-oriented position designed to develop a future leader for a rural 5311 public transportation agency. Through structured rotational assignments and hands-on involvement, the associate gains experience across Driver, Dispatcher, and Transportation Scheduler roles in preparation for potential advancement to Operations Manager and eventually, to Executive Director positions.

Key Responsibilities

Driver

  • Conduct inspections of assigned vehicles to identify functional issues and have them addressed before departing the agency’s Base location.
  • Operate agency vehicles safely and in compliance with all regulations.
  • Provide courteous and ADA-compliant service.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of vehicle operations.


 

 

Dispatcher

  • Coordinate daily trips and vehicle assignments.
  • Use dispatch and Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) tools for service monitoring.
  • Support real-time communication and issue resolution.

Transportation Scheduler

  • Develop daily and long-range schedules.
  • Optimize routes, driver rosters, and vehicle assignments.
  • Use data to improve scheduling outcomes and ensure policy compliance.

Operations Management Support

  • Participate in operational oversight and staff training.
  • Support policy development, safety initiatives, and budgeting.

Compliance & Administration

• Assist with Michigan Department of Transportation and Federal Transit Administration reporting, audits, grant documentation, and procurement compliance.

Professional Development

• Attend industry, skill and leadership training as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience, bachelor’s preferred.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Valid driver’s license, with ability to obtain Chauffer’s license or CDL with Passenger endorsement.
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to pass drug screening
